Canvas Training Recordings

In addition to help guide some of the future trainings that we provide here within the Western Division, as well as the sessions provided by the TCUS team in New York, one of the things that was suggested or asked about in the second open ended question was the availability of recording the webinars so that people could review the content if they weren’t able to attend the sessions live.  To date these sessions have not been recorded because there is already a recording of the content of each session available within the “How To Use Canvas: A Guide For Instructors” course that is available on your dashboard in Canvas.

If you go into the “How To Use Canvas: A Guide For Instructors” course you would see that one of the learning modules is focused on “Assignments and the Gradebook.”
And if you go into that module, you’ll see a series of videos there that would comprise the same content that is included in the webinar.
Even if the topic you are interested in isn’t listed as a module topic, the content from the webinar is still in the “How To Use Canvas: A Guide For Instructors.”  For example, say you were interested in the webinar on “Discussion Forums.”

The only difference between the recorded content in the “How To Use Canvas: A Guide For Instructors” course and the live webinar is that you have the opportunity to ask questions during the live webinar (and the presenter may include material in the live session that is tangential to the topic because of those questions).  However, if you were watching a recording of the live webinar you wouldn’t have that ability to question the presenter, so the more focused content provided in the recorded videos in the “How To Use Canvas: A Guide For Instructors” course give you the same information.

Hopefully this answers some questions as to why the live webinars are not recorded, as well as provides folks with some additional opportunities to access Canvas training on specific topics that are of interest to them.
